MINISTER BELIEVES 100 MILLION TREE-PLANTING PROGRAM TARGET WILL BE EXCEEDED

Bogor, West Java, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister MS Kaban said here Sunday that he was optimistic the target of the 100 million tree planting program designed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono could be exceeded.
"My optimism is based on the fact that the tree planting activities in Java island are in progress on a massive scale," Kaban said after planting a tree in the field of Garuda Battalion in Gunung Batu.
The minister said Central Java had planted 31.6 million trees and 22 million in East Java.
"In the meantime, West Java which is also actively planting trees. This makes me optimistic that the target of the project would be exceeded," Kaban added.
On the occasion, Kaban also thanked the Association of Forestry Faculty Graduates of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) and the Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) in Bogor for their efforts to make 150 communities in Bogor city plant 15.000 trees along the banks of Ciliwung, Cisadane and Cimandiri rivers.
Kaban said that the activity was the realization of President Yudhoyono's call to plant 100 trees on December 2008 and also the first lady's call to plant 10 million trees across Indonesia.
