ERC distributes more humanitarian aid to Iraqi refugee

ABU DHABI, 4th March 2015 (WAM) --- The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has distributed more humanitarian aid to thousands of Iraqi refugees who recently fled the violence to Iraq's Kurdistan Region. ERC's fresh aid, which is part of its response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, included food supplies, winter aid and basic supplies for children and mothers at refugee camps strewn around Erbil City. Some new refugees took refuge at schools, mosques as well as in structures that do not meet the minimum health standards. The ERC and its Iraqi humanitarian partners are trying to provide healthy shelters for the new refugees to protect them from diseases. The agency's delegation visited the Debika area, north of Erbil, where some 700 refugees, including men, women and children, crowded into a two-floor mosque with very few water closets and bad sanitary conditions. Not far from the area, some 140 refugees- mostly women and children- live in what used to be a chicken farm in terrible humanitarian conditions. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395277404597.html
