SOUTH BANDUNG INUNDATED AGAIN AS CITARUM RIVER OVERFLOWS
Bandung, West Java, Dec. 16 (ANTARA) - Parts of South Bandung were on Tuesday inundated for the sixth time this month because the Citarum River had overflowed.
The muddy floods have affected Sukamaju, Majalaya, and Majasetra villages in Majalaya sub district, Bandung District. The floodwaters started to rise at 2 am local time on Tuesday.
At least 1,500 houses stood in floodwaters reaching a height of between 50 and 100 centimeters.
"The floods rose at around 2 am and cut off roads to Majalaya. However, the floodwaters began to subside this morning," Warman of the Majalaya sub district administration, said here on Tuesday.
The floods also inundated a number of elementary and junior high school buildings, and disturbed the schools' activities including students' mid-semester tests.
In the Andir Baleendah area some 1,547 houses were flooded because the Citarum River had overflowed following incessant heavy rains over the past few days.
The Cieunteung area was affected the most as the floodwaters there reached a height of up to 120 centimeters, he said.
Indonesia is currently in the rainy season and a number of provinces including Aceh, East Java, South Kalimantan, and Central Sulawesi have experienced big floods due to the increased rainfall.
