Dubai Desert Triathlon attracts over 280 entries

DUBAI, 11th March, 2015 (WAM) -- The third edition of the Dubai Desert Triathlon, which combines the traditional Emirati heritage sport of endurance horse racing with the triathlon disciplines of running and cycling, to be held on 13th March, has already attracted over 280 entries.
"We are delighted with the way this event has become so popular so quickly. The unique combination of endurance horse riding, running and cycling, means that we can bring together people from around the region who are involved in these sports, and link them together to form teams for this event", a spokesperson from the Dubai Sports Council said yesterday.
The concept was developed by the Dubai Sports Council in partnership with Meydan, and has proved very popular with the triathlon and endurance horse riding communities. It has attracted significant interest from both the local Emirati and expat communities and has attracted entries from around the region and across the Middle East.
"We have over 280 entries so far, and are expecting more before entries close. We are very appreciative of the assistance Meydan is giving us with providing horses, and for the enthusiasm of the cycling and running fraternity who have embraced this new event," he added.
The event, which will take place on Friday March 13th at the Dubai International Endurance City (DIEC), has attracted competitors from across the region. Runners and cyclists can participate as teams and be matched with a rider to complete their team. Entries close on Monday, 9th March.
The event will kick off at 7a.m. with a 5km run, followed by a 50km cycle-ride and finishing with a 40km endurance horse ride in the Dubai International Endurance City, which is approximately a 40 minute drive from Dubai, next to Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa.
The Dubai Desert Triathlon is held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/sports/1395277664403.html
