Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Dec. 17 (ANTARA) - Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari has provided assistance amounting to Rp45 billion for construction of a reference public hospital in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province.
Minister Supari presented the financial assistance to NTB Governor M Zainul Majdi here on Wednesday.
She hoped that the planned hospital could be constructed soon to help improve the health quality of the NTB people.
The health ministry, in addition, would also help construct new community health centers (Puskesmas) and upgrade the existing Puskesmas to enable the health centers accommodate patients which need to be hospitalized.
She said that NTB had to work harder to improve the health quality in the province, especially to reduce the infant mortality rate which was quite high.
She appreciated the NTB governor for allocating considerable amount of the budget funds for the health sector in 2009, namely 18.5 percent of the province's total budget.
NTB was the first province which allocated 18.5 percent of its budget for the health sector, while other provinces was only 15 percent maximumly, according to her.
However, the province is currently lack of medical personnel as it has only 30 percent of the total number of medical personnel needed to serve villages throughout NTB.
