ACEH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE PREDICTED TO RISE IN 2009
Banda Aceh, Dec 17 (ANTARA) - The unemployment rate in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province is predicted to rise in 2009 when the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Board (BRR) and a number of non-governmental organizations terminate their operations in the province.
Secretary of Provincial Population Mobility and Manpower Office T Syahriel Doed said here on Wednesday the unemployment rate in the province at present was 9.8 percent and it was predicted to increase next year because the BRR's and NGOs' term of service would come to an end in April 2009.
Syahriel said at present there were 171,424 jobless people, including 90,621 females in Aceh and the number of the workforce was 1,742,185.
He added that to reduce the number of joblessness in the province, the Population Mobility and Manpower Office would make various know-how programs for the workforce' skills.
"With the skills they are expected to be independent and able to create new job opportunities," Syahriel said, adding that at least 1,604 young people in Aceh had been given job training in welding, mechanical, electronic, and sewing skills.
"Thus the specific objective of the program is to reduce the number of unemployment rate by creating skillful young workers who are prepared to work anywhere and in any fields," Syahriel said.
