UAE's Al Mandoos is new chair of Arab League's Permanent Committee on Meteorology

ABU DHABI, 2nd April 2015 (WAM) --- The Council of the Arab League has elected Abdullah Al Mandoos, Executive Director of the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) of the UAE as chairman of its Permanent Committee on Meteorology (LAS/PCM) The specialised committee consists of the heads of meteorological services of 19 Arab League states, and representatives of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and other Arab and international organisations. It is responsible for facilitating coordination between members on meteorological matters and cooperation with the relevant regional and international organisations including the WMO. Al Mandoos noted that the pan-Arab meteorological committee has set three strategic goals between 2015-2017. The new chairman explained that in its action plan, the technical committee seeks to boost its contribution to development of meteorological institutions of Arab states, enhance cooperation, communication and coordination between these institutions, and work on publicising the pan-Arab organised meteorological effort to international organisations.
