NAVY PREPARES SHIPS TO ANTICIPATE SEA ACCIDENTS
Surabya, Dec 18 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy's Eastern Fleet Command (Koarmatim) has prepared a number of warships in anticipation of possible sea accidents due to unfair weather and high waves during December and January, a spokesman said.
"We always try to take a lesson from previous sea incidents. and we have noted that from the end of December until the middle of January sea accidents frequently happen. MV Senopati Nusantara sank in December 2006," Koarmatim spokesman Lt Col Toni Syaiful said here on Thursday.
He said the Navy ships were prepared at sea and at the port and they could be mobilized anytime to make rescue and evacuation if sea accident happened.
"Some time ago the Indonesian Navy conducted sea accident rescue training, involving war ships, helicopters, rescue workers, including health service team. With such a training, the team will remain alert," he said.
To operate the rescue ships, he said, the crew members should pay attention to every information given by the meteorology and geophysics office (BMG).
According to Toni Syaiful, Navy ships conducting sea patrol should also pay attention to BMG information.
