PRESIDENT RECEIVES PARTICIPANTS OF SCOUT CONFERENCE
Jakata, Dec 18 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received the participants of Indonesian Scout Movement's National Conference at the State Palace here on Thursday.
On the occasion the president was accompanied by State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Adhyaksa Dault, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, and Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa.
The National Conference of the Indonesian Scout Movement 2008 went on from December 14 to 18 with its main agenda of electing National Quarter (Kwarnas) 2008-2013, and to fix the venue of National Jamboree.
Meanwhile, the re-elected Kwarnas 2008-2013 chairman Asrul Azwar in his address before President Yudhoyono said the revitalization process of the Indonesian Scout Movement would continue to progress, and an action plan for the next five years has been made.
The Indonesian Scout Movement or Gerakan Pramuka Indonesia incorporates both boys and girls. It is an education movement through Scouting activities, the education being directed toward a new, just, peaceful and prosperous Indonesian community based on the national ideology.
Education for young members is carried out through activities to achieve General Skill Requirements (GSR) and Special Skill Requirements (SSR) (merit badge system) towards achieving Garuda Scout.
The Scouts take an active part in various community development service projects. They take an active part in combating illiteracy, and the success of the campaign against illiteracy in one province, gained the Scouts worldwide recognition and won them a UNESCO award.
In addition, the Scouts also participate in the drive to improve health and nutrition in the community, especially children under five years of age.
