CHINESE DELEGATION DISCUSSES EDUCATIONAL COOPERATION WITH W SUMATRA
Padang, Dec 18 (ANTARA) - A delegation from China's Jiangsu Province visited West Sumatra on Thursday to discuss the possibility of educational cooperation through Chinese literature classes at Andalas University.
The Chinese delegation during the visit to West Sumatra was led by the Chinese Parliament's deputy secretary, Ms Zhang Lianzhen.
West Sumatra Governor Gamawan Fausi said here on Thursday that the presence of the Chinese delegation in the province was to reciprocate a visit by Vice Governor Marlis Rahman to China recently.
A number of win-win cooperation and investment plans in tourism, mining were also discussed at the meeting with the Chinese delegation.
In addition, the West Sumatra provincial administration also discussed other investment opportunities with the Chinese delegation.
Earlier, West Sumatra Vice Governor Marlis Rahman visited Nanjing University in China recently.
The third largest university in China has turned out many professionals who now worked for various big companies in the country and around the world.
Marlis Rahman's visit to China had yielded an agreement to open a Chinese-language study program at Andalas University (Unand).
Marlis said the Unand students who studied Chinese would in the future continue their studies at Nanjing University in China but they could pay their tuition fees through Unand.
He said the students from West Sumatra who wanted to study in China would only pay for their own airline tickets and in the country they would stay in a dormitory.
"It is of course beneficial for us because with our students studying in China, it will open other cooperation opportunities with China ," he said.
Marlis said cooperation with China was considered important as China's economic activities were growing significantly in Asia and in the world.
"Chinese economic growth is good and therefore we can take the benefit from our cooperation with the country," he said.
