ANTARANEWS, PEMBARUAN AWARDED APPRECIATION FOR CARE OF MIGRANT WORKERS

Jakarta, Dec 18 (ANTARA) - Antara's portal news service (antara.co.id) and Suara Pembaruan daily received appreciation for their care for the fate of migrant workers.

The appreciation from the National Commission on Human Rights in cooperation with the Press Study Institute and Development (LSPP), the Jakarta Legal Aid Agency and the Institute for Ecosoc Rights, were awarded by P. Prasetyohadi, a jury member who is also a researcher of the Institute for Ecosoc Rights, and Ignatius Haryanto, a Mass Media Observer of the LSPP, in Jakarta on Thursday.

Based on their observation in the past six months (June to Dec 2008) of eleven media, Suara Pembaruan was declared as the best paper reporting articles about Indonesian migrant workers' rights, while antaranews was crowned for its most frequent reports on the fate of Indonesian migrant workers.
The eleven mass media were Sinar Harapan, Kompas.com, Suara Pembaruan, Suara Merdeka, detik.com, antaranews(www.antara.co.id), Media Indonesia, Okesone.com, Tempointeraktif, Liputan.com and Republika.

The evaluation for the appreciation was based quality and the number of reports.

The evaluation and assessment were conducted by jury members, namely Ignatius Haryanto,a mass media observer from LSPP, Wahyu Susilo a researcher and observer on migrant workers from the international NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (Infid) and P. Presetyohadi, a researcher of the institute for Ecosoc Rights.
