PETROCHINA STRIKES OIL IN JAMBI
Tanjung Jabung, Dec 18 (ANTARA) - PetroChina International Jabung Ltd (PCIJL) discovered a new oil reserve in Marmo in the area around North Betara, Jambi.
The result of tests on Marmo-1 Exploration well recently showed daily production of the well reached 2,484 barrels of oil a day and gas 0.350 millions of cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), Vice President for Administrative Affairs of PetroChina International in Indonesia Budi Setiadi said here on Thursday.
"The well has been drilled since August 2008," he said.
He said his side was currently preparing production of the well starting in 2009 with a volume of 500 barrels of oil a day.
The new reserve will increase oil production of PetroChina from the Jabung Block of oid fields currently producing around 56,000 barrel oil equivalent per day (BOEPD). It will also increase national oil production, he said.
The Marmo-1 well is one of the seven exploration wells to be drilled in 2008 in the Jabung Block.
He said he hoped the discovery would be followed by other discoveries in other wells.
The Marmo field was located near other production fields so hopefully there would be speedy process of production or development in the fields.
With goood cooperation between BP Migas (the country's top oil and gas regulator) and PetroChina it is hoped the fields could start production in 2009 or early in 2010, he said.
PetroChina International Jabung is owned by PetroChina International Jabung Ltd, Petronas Carigali (Jabung) each holding 27.85 percent shares, PP Oil and Gas (Indonesia-Jabung) Ltd with 30.0 percent shares and PT Pertamina with 14.28 percent.
PetroChina is a cooperation contractor for BP Migas that controls five operation regions in Indonesia namely two in Jambi, two others in Papua and one in Tuban.
