MEUTIA HATTA LEADS CEREMONY TO OBSERVE MOTHERS DAY

Jakarta, Dec 19 (ANTARA) - State Minister for Women's Empowerment Meutia Hatta led a ceremony to observe Mothers Day at Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery in South Jakarta on Friday morning.

The ceremony was attended by a number of woman organizations such as Dharma Wanita (Association of Retired Civil Servants and the Wives of Civil Servants), Dharma Pertiwi (Association of Military Wives), Bhayangkari (Policewomen, and Association of Policemen's Wives), Kowani (Indonesian Women's Congress), and PKK (Family Welfare Movement).

After the ceremony, Meutia Hatta and the members of the women's organizations would sprinkle petals on a number of tombs.

"The peak event of the Mothers Day will be conducted next Monday, December 22 in Jakarta where President Susilo Bambang Yudhyono is going to deliver scientific address on Indonesian Women, the Present Challenge and Struggle," Meutia Hatta said.

She expressed hope that in this 80th Mothers Day anniversary, the Indonesian women would realize the importance of struggle to face the present globalization era.

"We are in a reform era at the moment, and it means the Indonesian women should be able to make something different to the nation. Although it is difficult indeed, all have to move forward to attain a successful future," said the state minister for women's empowerment.
