POLICE CALL FOR TIGHTER SECURITY AT MANADO HOTELS

Manado, N Sulawesi, Dec 19 (ANTARA) - North Sulawesi Police chief Brig Gen Bekto Suprapto has called on hotel owners here to tighten security in the runup to the World Ocean Conference (WOC) and Corral Triangle Initiative (CTI) summit from May 11-15, 2009.
"Security at hotels in the runup to the two international events is an absolute need," Suprapto said as he accompanied Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi in a visit here on Friday.
According to the police chief, security did not come out of the blue or fall from the sky because it had to be created by the people and security officials.
The National Police's former anti-terror commander (Densus 888) said every hotel in Manado should install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) as part of early anticipation of the threat of terrorism.
He said the CTI summit in Manado would be attended by six heads of state/government, namely from Indonesia, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor Leste, and delegates from the United States and Australia as observers.
Suprapto said the presence of the state/government heads should be accompanied with tight security including at the hotels where they would stay.
The committee members and the participants of CTI and WOC had booked several star-rated hotels such as Sintesa Peninsula Hotel, Ritzy Hotel, Grand Kawanua City Hotel, Quality Hotel, Swizs Belhotel, and Sedona Hotel.
