RI, CHINA TO SIGN AGREEMENTS ON 11 ENERGY PROJECTS

Jakarta, Dec 19 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and China will sign a cooperation agreement on 11 energy projects in the oil, gas and electricity sector on Monday, a mining ministry official said.
Expert staff of the minister for energy and mineral resources (ESDM), Luluk Sumiarso said here on Friday that Indonesia and China would sign the agreement during an Indonesia-China Energy Forum (ICEF).
"The value of the project agreement is already set but it is still subjected to verification," he added.
Luluk Sumarso said that the Indonesia-China Energy Forum which would be opened by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, would be attended by Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
The Jakarta meeting will be the third of its kind after the first and second forums were held in the Indonesian tourist resort island of Bali and Shanghai of China respectively.
"In general, the forum will discuss matters on oil, gas, electricity, coal and renewable energy. There will also be an option to discuss mining matters," Sumarso said.
He expressed hope that the signing of the energy projects would help create job opportunities and generate national economy.
Previously, President Director of state-owned electricity company PT PLN Fahmi Mochtar said that his side would sign a loan agreement for a 10,000 MW electricity project worth US$1.4-US$1.5 billion in the ICEF event.
The loans will be used to build a 10,000 MW power plants located in Java and outside Java.
Overall, the state-owned electricity firm needs US$4.5 billion in project loans to build the 10,000 MW power projects, the PLN president director said.
According to Mochtar, PLN has signed an agreement worth US$1.8 billion so that its need remains US$2.7 billion.
In the meantime, he said, for loans in the form of rupiah, PLN needs some Rp17.3 trillion of which it has secured Rp13 trillion so that it still needs another Rp4.3 trillion. ***2***
