INDONESIAN MIXED DOUBLE NOVA/LILIYANA TO MEET DEMARK IN FINALS

Jakarta, Dec 20 (ANTARA) - Indonesian mixed double Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir advanced to the finals of the Badminton Super Series Master 2008 after beating their rival in the semifinals on Saturday.

The pair which pocketted a silver medal in the Beijing Olympic Games needed only 36 minutes to prevail in two games against their British rivals Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg 23-21, 21-17 at an indoor stadium in Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

"We attacked and were not provoked by emotion during the game," Nova said after the win.
In the finals, the Indonesian pair will face Denmark's Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter Juhl who previously defeated Thailand's Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thungthongkam 21-17 and 22-20.

"We often meet our British rivals who play swiftly and often speculate. So we played slowly but intensified our attacks while minimizing mistakes," Nova said.

In the meantime, Indonesian double Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan failed to advance to the finals after being beaten by their Korean rivals Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae 20-22, 21-15 and 16-21.

Athens qualify Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat also failed to qualify for the finals after being defeated by host country's single player Lee Chong Wei.

Lee only needed 25 minutes to beat Taufik 21-5, 21-10 and with his victory, Lee will meet Danish single player Peter Gade in the finals of the USD$500,000 prized tournament.
