BUNTARO SITUMORANG WRITES TWO SONGS FOR BARRACK OBAMA

Jakarta, Dec 20 (ANTARA)- Buntaro Situmorang, a senior Indonesian singer, has written two songs dedicated to US president-elect Barrack Obama, expressing his amazement at Obama's success in becoming the first black man to win a US presidential election.

"Obama's election is proof that something thought impossible by man can happen if God wills it," Buntaro told the press here on Friday.

Buntaro who was born in Samosir Island, North Sumatra province on March 17, 1947, was once a member of the "Trio Lasidos" band together with other singers, Jack Marpaung and Hilman Padang.

The two songs for Obama were titled "Obama, Kau Telah Mengukir Sejarah" (Obama, you have made history) and "Obama, Kau Lahir Di Saat Krisis Global" (Obama, you were born during the global crisis).

"I will send the two songs to Obama through the US embassy in Jakarta," said Buntaro, who had also written three significant songs namely "Soeharto Bapak Pembangunan (Soeharto, father of development", "Jakartaku (My Jakarta)" and "Polisi (Police)", which were written in 1995 and in 2008 respectively.

"Soeharto Bapak Pembangunan (Soeharto, father of development)
referred to Soeharto's achievements as Indonesia's second president.

The recording process of the two songs for Barrack Obama was supported by some musicians like Henry Lamiri, Dorman Manik, Conny Mamahit and R & B.
It was also reported that when Barack Obama was announced recently as the President-elect, students from his old school, Besuki elementary, in Jakarta, jumped euphorically and the teachers wept. ***2***
