Euro-UAE human rights working group holds meeting

ABU DHABI, 20th May 2015 (WAM) - The European-UAE joint working group on human rights held its 4th meeting in Abu Dhabi yesterday as part of the initiative launched in 2013 by UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The meeting is held every two years, rotating between Abu Dhabi and Brussels.
The meeting was presided over by Dr. Abdul Rahim Al Awadhi, UAE's Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs. It was attended by representatives from the interior and justice ministries, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the General Authority for Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
The European side was headed by John O'Rourke, Head of Division, Arabian Peninsula, Iraq and Iran at the EU and included Carlo De Filippi, EU Ambassador to the UAE, and a number of EU officials and experts.
The meeting discussed issues of mutual interest, including latest human rights developments in the UAE and the EU, joint cooperation and efforts to promote religious tolerance and to combat terrorism and extremism. – Emirates News Agency, WAM –
