PRESIDENT ASKS REGIONAL HEADS TO HAVE CLOSE TIES WITH KADIN
Jakarta, Dec 21 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on governors, district heads and mayors to establish close relations with businesspeople particularly those grouped in the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
The government and the business world are partners that cannot work separately to create job opportunities, the head of state said in his inaugural address to the fifth national congress of the chamber at the Jakarta Convention Center here on Sunday.
"The business world is a government's partner. It is impossible for the government including regional administrations to work alone. Kadin must have closer ties with governors, district heads and mayors," the president said to the applause of the audience.
Regional heads must warmly welcome any businesspeople's wish to invest in their respective region, particularly in the current global financial crisis that may lead to layoffs in the industrial sector, he said.
"Let me know if any of regional heads does not have a sense of crisis," he told the businesspeople attending the congress.
The president expressed gratitude to Kadin members for their role and cooperation with the government in anticipating the impact of the global financial crisis.
