STRONG QUAKE HITS ACEH
Banda Aceh, Dec 21 (ANTARA) - A 5.7 magnitude earthquake rattled Indonesia's westernmost province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam on Sunday night but there was no immediate repors on casualties or material damage.
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 8.47 p.m. was in the sea about 88 km southwest of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh, in a depth of 30 km, spokesman for the local meteorology and geophysics station Tri Deni said.
The quake was strongly felt by people in Banda Aceh, with some of them rushing outdoors for fear of collapse of their homes.
The tremblor was also felt by people in Sabang, Pidie, Bireun, Meulaboh and South Aceh district.
The quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, the spokesman said.
