PRESIDENT CALLS ON POLITICAL PARTIES TO ORDER MORE T-SHIRTS AND BANNERS
Jakarta, Dec. 22 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on political parties' leaders to order a plenty of t-shirts and banners to help the domestic textile industry which is currently being affected by the global economic crisis.
"Leaders of political parties, please order more t-shirts and more banners," the president said when delivering his address in the opening ceremony of the Fifth National Congress of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) here on Sunday.
The national textile industry is at present badly hit by the global financial crisis as the demands from overseas, especially the US where the crisis started, have dropped significantly.
The head of state hoped that the campaign activities by political parties in the runup to the General Elections 2009, could help revive the textile industry.
T-shirts and banners depicting pictures political parties or candidates are used by political parties as well as by legislator candidates and presidential candidates to promote themselves.
In his opening speech, President Yudhoyono also called on governors, district heads and mayors to establish close relations with businesspeople particularly those grouped in the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
The president also expressed gratitude to Kadin members for their role and cooperation with the government in anticipating the impact of the global financial crisis.
