CHILDREN ENTERTAINED BY NEW YORK HARLEM SINGERS

Jakarta, Dec 22 (ANTARA) - Some 150 students were invited to the residence of United States Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron Hume on Monday to be entertained by the New York Harlem Singers.

"The New York Harlem Singers are in Jakarta as part of their Asian charity concert tour to raise funds for an international non-governmental organization, HOPE worldwide," Public Diplomacy Officer of the embassy, Tristram Perry, said.

The New York Harlem Singers is a group of eight musicians combining the traditional Broadway music, opera and American traditional spiritual songs.

The guests invited are from SDN (elementary school) 01 Menteng, the Nurani Dunia, a nonprofit organization, the Taman Suropati Chamber Group and also some of Obama's school mates of SDN 01, Menteng
The Singers were performing three songs, one of them is a special song called Obama's Journey.

Cameron Hume said Indonesia-US relations would be tightened by this cultural exchange event.

"The most important thing we can get from the cultural exchange is mutual respect," Hume said.

Meanwhile, the founder and also head of the Taman Suropati Chamber Group, Ages, said the opportunity to come to an ambassador's residence is a good opportunity for the kids of the group.

"As street performers, they get a new experience on how to perform and also about good attitudes in a new place like this," he said.
