TEENAGER DROWNS IN STRONG RIVER CURRENT
Tasikmalaya, Dec 23 (ANTARA) - Hendi (16) from Sela Awi village, Tasikmalaya Regent, was found dead Monday at 8 am local time after dragged and washed away by a river's strong current on Sunday (Dec 21).
According to eyewitnesses, Hendi was playing soccer with his friends near the Ciwulan river, but fell into the river when trying to reach the ball.
His friends told him not to reach for the ball because the Ciwulan river current was too strong. But Hendi ignored their calls and went for the ball, and fell into the river.
At that time he was swept by the strong current and his friends tried to help him, but Hendi disappeared into the deep.
His friends cannot see his body anymore, and reported the accident to his family, who later tried to find the poor boy.
The search was in vain, and Hendi's dead body was found the next morning by Karang Nunggal villagers, Tasikmalaya regency, some 70 km away.
His dead body was taken to the Tasikmalaya general hospital for an autopsy. Later it was brought to his parents for burial.
Meanwhile hundreds of his neighbors and families cried when the body arrived at his home, and buried in a local cemetery.
Mrs Apong, Hendi's mother, did not believe that she had lost her son, and kept crying.
"I'm sad and did not expect this to happen to my son," she said weeping.
