VP SAYS GOVERNMENT TO LOWER SUBSIDY RATE
Jakarta, Dec 23 (ANTARA) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla has said the government would continue to lower subsidy rate in the state budget (APBN) in an effort to improve the Indonesian economic development.
"We are going to lower the subsidy rate to the lowest level possible so that the national economic development can run well," Vice President Jusuf Kalla said in a function to close the 5th National Congress of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) here on Monday.
Kalla said that if the subsidy rate was reduced, it would not be a burden to APBN but it would be used for the national economic development.
Therefore, he said the government would continue to lower the subsidy rate through technology and conversion.
The vice president pointed out that when the program of conversing kerosene into liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was launched, most of the people had doubts about the program and strongly criticized the government but one year after the conversion, gas demand increased dramatically.
"After the conversion, people stood in line to buy gas. For the government, the conversion led to criticism but for the business players it was an opportunity to do business," the vice president said.
Therefore, he called on the business players in KADIN to step up their spirit of nationalism by being the first to love national product and then the people would follow their step.
