PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO ATTENDS HKSN PEAK EVENT
Jakarta, Dec 23 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono attended the peak event of the 50th Anniversary of the National Social Solidarity Day (HKSN) at the National Monument (Monas) square here on Tuesday.
Besides the president, thousands of people from various organizations and students also attended the event which was started at 9 local time in the morning.
The peak event of the HKSN at Monas square was marked with a symbolic delivery of People Business Credit (KUR) from four state banks amounting Rp12,249 trillion to more than 1.5 million debtors, and the delivery of natural disaster management assistance from Social Services Ministry (Depsos).
On the occasion, Depsos among others delivered a Rescue Tactical Unit car to Banda Aceh city, a field public kitchen car to Dompu district in West Nusa Tenggara province, a water tank to Tanah Laut district in South Kalimantan province, and a cargo truck to Jakarta special province (DKI).
Depsos also delivered a grant of Rp48.56 billion for the rehabilitation of around 4,856 inadequate houses across the country.
Meanwhile, Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah also presented an award to a Neighborhood Youth Association (Karang Taruna) and a social workers organization.
President Yudhoyoho on the occasion would present medals of honor to a number of recipients namely Bambang W Soeharto of Jakarta, Anna Anggraini of West Java, Maman Supriatman of the Social Affairs Ministry, and Sri Wuryaningsih of Depsos' Regional and International Cooperation unit.
In his address, Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah said that in the midst of global financial crisis, the bond social solidarity in Indonesian should be strengthened even more and the people be more generous.
To create a prosperous and autonomous Indonesia, the minister said social solidarity and mutual care among the country's people should be stepped up.
