SAUDI ARABIA DEPORTS MORE THAN 23,000 INDONESIAN MIGRANT WORKERS
Jeddah, Dec 23 (ANTARA) - The Saudi government deported 23,644 Indonesian migrant workers (TKIs), most of which were women, in the January-December 2008 period, Indonesia's Consul General here Abdullah Mansyur said on Tuesday.
Mansyur said that most of the deported TKIs had entered the country illegally. Some had used only 'umroh' (minor hajj) visas and stayed until the hajj pilgrimage season came, thus overstaying their visas.
The Indonesian consul general said that most of the illegal TKIs had no official immigration documents such as passports and other identities.
He said that the Saudi authorities were compelled to deport the Indonesian TKIs using an SLPS document, namely a travel document in lieu of passports. ***8***
