BEI INDEX LOWER 1.19 PERCENT EARLY TUESDAY
Jakarta, Dec. 23 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed slightly lower in the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) early Thursday on the lack of positive sentiments in the stock market.
The IHSG dropped 15.999 points or 1.19 percent to 1,329.309, and the LQ45 index plunged 4.246 points or 1.58 percent to 263.940.
Depreciated shares still dominated the market with 92 shares that lost, and 29 that managed to advance, 34 which remained static, and 302 that were not actively traded.
Astra International shares declined by Rp800 to Rp10,300, State telecommunication company PT Telkom shares were down by Rp100 to Rp6,950, Bank BRI plunged Rp175 to Rp4,350, and Bank BNI shares tumbled by Rp30 to Rp660.
PT Danareksa Securities in its daily analysis said the BEI Index was under pressure due to a lack of the positive sentiments in the stock market.
The transaction activity at BEI was quite slow, reflected by share transactions which were recorded at only 21,718, involving 532,906 million shares with a total value of Rp479.452 billion.
The Indonesian stocks closed lower Tuesday morning as investor sentiment was dented by overnight falls in U.S. and regional markets, the analysis said.
The Dow Jones industrial average shed 59.18 points or 0.69 percent to 8,519.93 on late Monday, and the tech-dominated Nasdaq composite index fell 2.04 percent.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 10.81 points, or 0.92 percent, to 1,168.8 in the first 15 minutes of trading early Thursday, Hang Seng index in the Hong Kong bourse plunged 2.82 percent (411.71 points) to 14,210.67, and Straits Times index in the Singapore bourse went down 1.15 percent (20.27 points) to 1,738.70.
The rupiah was trading at Rp11,115/11,175 per US dollar, down 215 points from Rp10,900/11,000 from Monday's close.
