Syrian Figures Laud Indonesia's Political Stance

Jakarta, June 19 (Antara) - Several Syrian educational leaders, who are also prominent figures from Mujamma '(Foundation) Sheikh Ahmad Kaftaru, lauded Indonesia's political stance regarding the conflict in the country. Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Djoko Harjanto stated in a press release received by Antara here, Friday. The leaders of the educational foundation are Chairman Sheikh Mohammad Sharif Sawwaf and Vice-Chairmen: Sheikh Mohamed Adnan Afiyoni and Sheikh Abdul Salam Rajih. "They convey their greetings and highest appreciation for Indonesia's great concern, support, and help to the people of Syria," affirmed the ambassador. The Syrian educational leaders praised Indonesia's political stance of not withdrawing its representative from the Syrian capital of Damascus. "The presence of Indonesian diplomats and students showcases our political outlook and support to the people and the government of Syria," Ambassador Djoko affirmed. He emphasized that Indonesia is committed to delivering humanitarian assistance to Syria in the near future. The Kaftaru leaders are thankful for Indonesia's assistance to Syria, stressing that the political stance and support hold greater importance than humanitarian assistance. The Syrian conflict broke out in 2011 when the country's public demanded the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad. The year of 2014 was the deadliest period in the four-year conflict in Syria, as more than 76 thousand people were killed.
