Aceh Immigration Office deports 59 Bangladeshis

Lhokseumawe, Aceh, June 25 (Antara) -- The Langsa Immigration Office, in cooperation with the International Organization of Migration, deported 59 of the 426 Bangladeshi immigrants who were accommodated at the Kuala Langsa shelter in Langsa, Aceh. They were deported in three stages on June 22, 23 and 24, Chief of the Langsa Immigration Office Maman Budiman was quoted as saying by his staff, Afrizal, here on Thursday. The remaining 367 Bangladeshis will be sent back to their country when their travel documents, to be prepared by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Jakarta, are ready, he added. "All these immigrants will certainly be deported to their country of origin when their travel documents are completed," Afrizal stated. Moreover, some 2,005 foreign migrants have been given accommodation in 18 migration detention centers in Aceh's neighboring province of North Sumatra, a local official revealed. The foreign migrants include the 96 Myanmarese and Bangladeshi nationals who were stranded in the waters of Pangkalan Susu in Langkat district, Herawan Sukoaji of the Medan Migration Office had affirmed in Medan, North Sumatra, recently. Among other migrants in this group are several from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Eritrea and Iran. "Most of them fled due to conflicts in their countries," he explained. The Medan Migration Office recently wrote to the Embassy of Bangladesh regarding 56 Bangladeshi migrants who require travel documents for their repatriation. "In addition, we still await the central government's directives on 40 other Myanmarese nationals," Sukoaji added.
