Indonesia to conduct test of intelligence chief's candidate in July

Jakarta, June 25 (Antara) - The Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives will conduct a fit and proper test on next Wednesday, (July 1), to evaluate the candidate for the post of the State Intelligence Agency's chief. "We will submit the result of the fit and proper test to President Joko Widodo," Vice Chairman of Commission I Tantowi Yahya stated here on Thursday. According to Tantowi, the institution will be the first to conduct a fit and proper test to evaluate the candidate for the post of the intelligence agency's chief. The test will serve as a platform for the candidate to deliver his program, mission, and commitment as the chief of the agency and will then be considered by the members of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives. "The members will further consider the explanation given by the candidate," Tantowi noted. The Commission I will focus on several results including the task of the intelligence agency, the chief's commitment, and further challenges to be faced by the intelligence agency. Tantowi remarked that cyber and economic intelligence are the future challenges that the agency will likely encounter. "The threats arising from the cyber and economic sectors must be monitored by the intelligence agency," Tantowi said, adding that the agency needs to monitor and study them. Tantowi affirmed that the intelligence agency, as a body that gathers a lot of information, should study the sectors to optimize the performance. He added that the foreign countries that give grants and assistance to Indonesia should also be monitored whether they have specific intentions or not.
