PRIEST ASKS CHRISTIANS TO BE PATIENT IN FACING GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS
Jakarta, Dec. 25 (ANTARA) - Hundreds of Christians attended a Christmas Mass smoothly and peacefully at Immanuel Church in Central Jakarta, on Thursday.
Priest Fonni Harahama Pattipellohy, who led the Mass, in his sermon asked the Christians to be patient and not to complain in facing the current global financial crisis.
"Don't be afraid, the current crisis condition must be faced patiently, so that we could achieve happiness and welfare. There is already a guarantee," he said.
The global economic crisis, which has affected Indonesia, should be responded with patience, or otherwise, it would cause restlessness in one's life, according to the priest.
Some 80 policemen were deployed to safeguard the Christmas Mass 2008 in the Immanuel Church.
The Immanuel Church conducted the Mass in the Indonesian language, Dutch and English.
Having a beautiful Baroque-style, the Immanuel Church was formerly called Willemskerk. This beautiful church with a domed roof was built in honor of King Willem I of the Netherlands. The church's name was changed to Immanuel in 1948.
Indonesian Christians celebrated Christmas throughout the country, which has the world's largest Muslim population.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is currently on a working visit in North Sulawesi, is scheduled to attend a Christmas celebration at the Manado Governor's official residence on Thursday evening.
