MORNING CHRISTMAS MASS AT CATHEDRAL GOES SMOOTHLY

Jakarta, Dec. 25 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Catholics attended a Christmas Mass, which ran smoothly and solemnly, at Jakarta`s Cathedral here on Thursday morning.
According to information from the Cathedral, the Christmas Mass was scheduled to be held in five sessions on Thursday (Dec. 25).
The first session was held at 6 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB) and led by Catholic Priest Fransciscuss Xaverius Adisusanto; the second mass was at 7.30 am and led by Bernardus Agus Rukianto; the third at 9 am and led by Jakarta Bishop Julius kardinal Darmaatmadja; the fourth Mass for children and families was at 11 am and headed by Priest Andras Subagio; and the fifth was scheduled at 6 pm WIB and would be chaired by Priest Dismas Tulolo.
Like in the previous years, during Christmas, the Cathedral intensified its security by deploying 20 policemen in the church area. A number of volunteers from the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) also helped guard the church.
The Jakarta Roman Catholic Cathedral, which is able to accommodate around 2,500 people, is the oldest and biggest in Indonesia.
Millions of Christians celebrated Christmas throughout Indonesia, which has the world's largest Muslim population.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who arrived in Manado, on Thursday morning for a two-day working visit in North Sulawesi Province, is scheduled to attend a Christmas celebration at the Manado Governor's official residence on Thursday evening.
