FLOODS IN SAMARINDA EXPAND

Samarinda, E Kalimantan, Dec. 25 (ANTARA) - The floods, which have affected Samarinda over the past few days, are expanding to wider areas.
The water level keeps on rising and now it has reached a height of 60 centimeters," Wahyu, a resident of dr. Sutomo street, said here on Wednesday.
The floodwaters reaching a height of up to one meter, inundated a number of roads in the capital of East Kalimantan Province. Roads which were submerged included Pemuda, Pemuda I, Pemuda IV, dr. Sutomo, Merak, Gatot Subroto, Remaja, and Ruhui Rahayu streets.
Due to the flooding, a number of churches were inundated, forcing Christmas mass to be moved to unaffected churches.
Indonesia is currently in a rainy season and some provinces including Aceh, East Java, South Sulawesi, Central Java, South Kalimantan, and West Java are inundated due to very high intensity rainfalls.
