MAJLIS DISCUSSES DRAFT ACT ON REFERENDUM ON “MAKING AMENDMENTS AND SUPPLEMENTS
Baku, 26 December,(AzerTAj)Azerbaijan`s Parliament, the Milli Majlis, discussed
Friday a draft Act on Referendum on “making amendments and supplements to the
Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
During discussions, MPs noted that
ongoing political and economic reforms, democratic processes in the country
necessitated the Constitutional amendments.
They said the proposed amendments would strengthen ensuring human rights and
fundamental freedoms in the country.
The Act proposes making amendments and supplements to 29 clauses of the
Constitution, including removing a two-term presidential limit, granting forty
thousand people a legislative initiative and obliging the municipalities to report
to the Milli Majlis.
MPs underlined that the constitutional amendments were very important to protect
political stability and to ensure sustainable development and national security in
the country.
Finally, the Parliament decided, with 100 votes in favor, to hold the referendum on
March 18.
