PETROCHINA HANDLING OUTBURST OF GRESIK MUD FLOW

Bojonegoro, E Java, Dec 27 (ANTARA)- Petrochina is now handling the outburst of mud flow in Sekarkurung village, Kebomas sub-district, Gresik, East Java, hoping it be able to stop it on Saturday, the company's spokesman said.

"Tonight, the mud flow had begun to recede and we hope that it will completely stop tomorrow," Petrochina Superintendent Achmad Rizani said on Friday evening.
With a height of about 2 to 3 meters, the mud flow burst out of three wells of Lengowangi II at 6 am on Friday in a 50 sq m location within the Joint Operating Body (JOB) area of Petrochina East Java.
Rizani said that normally called bubble, the gas outburst took place 300 m under the earth surface. He did not explain the causes of the mud flow.
But he said the bubble could have happened due to friction under the earth surface at the old wells of state-owned oil company Pertamina.
Because the bubble happened at a shallow depth, the incident was not considered dangerous as what happened at the Lapindo wells in Sidoarjo, he said.
He said that Petrochina was handling the case. Rizani did not explain how the company took steps to secure the mud flow.
"The latest information we have is that the flow of mud and gas has begun to recede," he said.
