PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO TO ATTEND X`MASS CELEBRATIONS AT JCC
Jakarta, Dec 27 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend Christmas celebrations at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center on Saturday evening.
The celebrations which will begin at 7.30 pm will be attended by a number of religious leaders, government officials and the public.
Previously on Thursday the president and his wife Mrs Ani Yudhoyono attended Christmas celebrations in Manado, North Sulawesi.
On the occasion, President Yudhoyono called on Christians to develop and nurture noble values in an effort to build the country into an excellent nation.
"I hope all Christians would build the country's noble values and civilization so that it would reinforce the nation's self-reliance and excellence," the president said when attending Christmas celebrations at the North Sulawesi Governor's Guest House here on Thursday night.
He said that adopting an optimism attitude in life could become an asset for the country to develop itself into a self-reliant nation with excellent civilization.
In another part of his address the president said that the diversity of Indonesia should not restrict the people to unite as one nation.
"Diversity should not create discrimination and egoism. There should be no racial groups who think they are superior above others," the president said.
Yudhoyono called on Christians in North Sulawesi and in Indonesia in general to continue developing life norms so far existing in the country such as the values of cooperation and harmony.
On Saturday evening, the president, accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kallachaired, opened a consultation meeting with leaders of state institutions at the State Palace.
Cabinet ministers who attended the meeting included Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, Attorney General Hendarman Supandji and National Defense Forces Chief General Djoko Santoso.
Leaders of state institutions who attended the meeting included House Speaker Agung Laksono, a number of House factions' leaders, Constitutional Court Chairman Mahfud MD, Chairman of Development and Financial Supervisory Board (BPKP) Didi Widayadi, General Elections Commission (KPU) Chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary and members of the KPU and of the Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu).
