TWO MISSING IN BOAT ACCIDENT

Cilacap, Indonesia, Dec 27 (ANTARA) - Two contract workers for seedling section of the Forest Management Company Perhutani were reported missing after their small boat carrying around 2,000 tree seedlings sank in Donan River, Cilacap, on Saturday.

Identified as Poniman (50) and Sukarso (48), residents of Donan village, Central Cilacap Subdistrict, Cilacap district, Central Java, the two were feared drowned after their small boat was hit by river waves on their way with the tree seedlings to Jojok area.

Information obtained from some witnesses said the accident happened at about 09:00 local time when the two received an order of 2000 'sengon' seedlings to Jojok area in Kutawaru village by using this fiber -made small boat.

About 500 meters away from Perhutani berth in the river bank, the boat sank and the two screamed for help. They could not be rescued as the help came late.

People around the location of the accident attempted to help them when seeing the boat was to sink, but it was impossible as the waves in the rivers were huge amidst a strong blow of winds during the rainy season.

Some witnesses suspected that the accident was caused by strong wind which triggered waves in the river. The overloaded boat could not survive the waves. In a few minutes, the waves sank the boat including the two passengers.
