LEGAL VIOLATION BY INDONESIANS IN CHINA IN 2008 RELATIVELY SMALL
Beijing, Dec 27 (ANTARA) - Legal violation cases which might involve Indonesians living in China in 2008 were reported to be relatively small and practically the presence of Indonesians brought no problem to this country.
"Such legal violation committed by Indonesians in China meant nothing. If any, it is too small like overstay," a spokesman for the Indonesian embassy office in Beijing, China, Kreshna Adi Poetranto, said here on Saturday.
In the past, the cases often faced by Indonesians, he said, had to do with with their involvement in drug trafficking, brawl or business problems which ended with a tension and others.
In addition, overstay was a predominant case faced by Indonesians living in China and many of them had to pay such fines or to serve jail sentence.
Even it was only an overstay case, Kreshna again and again reminded Indonesian students living in China not to trivialize this problem and should be seriously taken it into account.
According to him, the happening of the case was due to the fact that many Indonesian students forgot the expiry date of their visa and are yet to extend their expired visa.
If they overstayed, the Chinese immigration was very firm to this case. But China also fostered cooperation with the Indonesian embassy office if there is an Indonesian trapped in immigration problem.
"Usually, they will give us a call if there is an Indonesian who has violated the immigration provision or other laws. We will certainly help settle the case but we remain respecting legal provisions prevailing in this country," he said.
The Indonesian embassy office in Beijing has the opportunity to have talks with Indonesians living in Beijing and in Shanghai, the two cities often sheltering Indonesians, on the importance to report upon their arrival in China and before leaving this country, to heed the validity of their passport and that of their visa.
