AMIEN HAS ANOTHER OBJECTIVE BEHIND HIS INTENTION TO PARTICIPATE IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Yogyakarta, Dec 27 (ANTARA) - The decision of former People's Consultative Assembly Chairman Amien Rais to participate in presidential election has another but bigger objective than a mere victory.

The opinion was made by the Director of Political Sciences, Post Graduate Program, at the Gadjah Mada state university of Yogyakarta, I Ketut Putra Erawan, here on Saturday.

"If Amien Rais's intention is to win it is something impossible, as he is no longer popular. The votes Amien will likely win in the election are only about five percent. Principally he has another intention to take part in the presidential election," he said.

Another objection behind Amien Rais' running for presidency, according to Ketut, was more focused on bringing a message that Indonesia was currently undergoing a crisis of alternative leaders and such leadership could be created in such a way, but it should go through a long process.

In addition, Amien wanted to convey to political parties as participant of the general election that they would also face a crisis of caderization.

"As long as the political parties only recruit their cadres without a process to groom them, this condition will make the parties face a failure in create a leader except the ability to recruit a leader," he said

Ketut Erawan doubted that the objective unveiled by Amien Rais implicitly could not be understood by political parties, thus prompting them to be trapped in mistakes they make frequently from time to time.

"The emergence of an alternative candidate will be deemed as a means of improving bargaining position," he said.

"Recruiting a leader by promoting his potentials is exactly a wrong caderization," he said while taking as example of Barrack Obame as the US president elect, who should struggle for 15 years before becoming the president with a full support from his party.
