Vietnam gets the cup, finally

Hanoi (VNA) - Hanoi 's My Dinh Stadium exploded in the last minute of the AFF
Suzuki Cup's second leg final match as Vietnamese striker Cong Vinh headed the ball
in Thailand 's goal to draw the game at 1-1, making Vietnam the new champion in
the region.

In the first leg of the final in Bangkok on Dec. 24, Vietnam won 2-1 over
Thailand . With today's draw, the team secured a 3-2 victory over its traditional
rival.

This is the first time Vietnam has stepped onto the highest stage of the
regional championship for decades.

The guest players opened the score with a header by Dangda at the 21 st minute,
but they failed to keep their edge over the hosts.

Local fans thronged the streets into the night to celebrate the much-expected
