LARGEST TRADITIONAL MARKET IN PALU ON FIRE
Palu, C Sulawesi, Dec 28 (ANTARA)- Masomba, the largest traditional market in Central Sulawesi's capital of Palu, caught fire on Sunday night, but there was no immediate report on material loss.
The conflagration broke out Sunday at about 8.30 p.m., witnesses said, adding that at least five fire engines were diployed to extinguish the flames.
Some local people and kiosk owners were frantically busy to save their belongings.
A few explosions were heard at the market which has hundreds of kiosks.
In the meantime, a house in Kampung Rambutan, East Jakarta, also caught fire on Sunday morning, causing about Rp 30 million in material loss.
Eight fire engines were sent to the scene to put out the blaze which broke out at 9.15 a.m., Sugeng, an eyewitness said.
"I saw a number of neighbors rushing outdoors in panic to save their belongings," he said.
There was no immediate report of any casualty.
"It took almost 45 minutes to put out the flames," Puji, a fire fighter, said.
