AMIEN RAIS NEEDS TO PAVE THE WAY FOIR OTHER CIGANJUR FIGURES

Jakarta, Dec 29 (ANTARA) - Prof Dr Amien Rais was expected to pave the way to other Ciganjur figures wishing to become a national leader, Director of the Institute of National Studies Victus Murin said.

Victus Murin, a political analyst who was also former secretary general of the Indonesian National University Students Movement (GMNI) made the remarks in his comment on Amien Rais nominated by the National Mandate Party (PAN) as a candidate for next year's presidential election.

"I never see it as an unfavorable step. PAN has a political right to nominate Amien Rais as a presidential candidate that deserves appreciation," he said.

However as founder of the reforms movement, Amien Rais really understood that Indonesia is in need of a new leader.

According to him, Amien Rais had to be proactive to consolidate a reform front. One of them was by paving the way for other Cigandjur figures to run for the presidency.

Victus saw Amien Rais had a special ability to consolidate all exponents of the reform movement in many quarters including campuses, NGOs, government bureaucracy, the political and military elite, business world, the press and others.
