JAKARTA STOCKS OPEN SLIGHTLY UP IN YEAR'S LAST TRADING SESSION
Jakarta, Dec. 30 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) opened 0.68 percent higher on Tuesday morning, the last trading session in 2008.
The IHSG in the first 15 minutes of trading was up 9.140 points or 0.68 percent at 1,350.03, and the LQ45 index strengthened 2.619 points to 269.06.
Among shares which advanced in the BEI were Trada Maritime (TRAM) shares which were up Rp34 to Rp159, Indosat (ISAT) shares which surged Rp50 to Rp5,650, Bank Mandiri (BMRI) shares which rose Rp25 to Rp2,050, State Gas Company (PGAS) which advanced Rp30 to Rp1,890, and Medco Energy International (MEDC) which went up Rp20 to Rp1,810.
PT Trimegah Securities in its daily research analysis said the current conducive condition and positive sentiments in the regional bourses, including the US bourse gain, also affected the BEI index.
On Monday evening, the US bourse with Dow Jones Index slightly strengthened 0.578 percent to 8,468.48, the Tokyo bourse with its Nikkei index surged 0.413 percent to 8,552.46. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 6.93 points, or 0.62
percent, to 1,124.52
However, the trading activities in Jakarta were expected to be slow, as many market players were on holiday.
Last Friday, the transactions at BEI were recorded at Rp445.643 billion only, much less than the earlier average of above Rp1 trillion.
