ACEH GOVT URGED TO CONTROL DRUG CIRCULATION
Banda Aceh, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - The Anti Drug Movement (Granat) has called on the Naggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) provincial administration and the local law enforcing agencies to intensify their efforts to fight the illicit drug trade in the province in 2009.
Granat spokesman Afrizal said here on Tuesday drug circulation in NAD province this year had gotten out of hand because drugs had even reached schools.
"We hope the NAD government will try to prevent drug circulation more intensively. If needed, have all civil servants and civil servant candidates who have passed recruitment tests this year undergo urine test," Afrizal said here on Tuesday.
He also called on the local education office to tighten control over every student at every school in the province to keep them away from drugs.
Afrizal said the Provincial Narcotic Board should also involve other mass organizations in the province to implement a more optimal and consistent drug management program.
"The law enforcers as well should be more professional in drug management and take the strongest possible action against the perpetrators of drug-related offenses," he said.
Therefore, Afrizal added that all elements of the public in Aceh should step up their vigilance against drug circulation in their respective neighborhoods.
Afrizal said at least 20 drug cases were uncovered almost every month this year, and it was a significant progress in anti drug efforts in Aceh province.
