World needs to join forces to promote culture of peace: Al Qassim

GENEVA, 27th September, 2015 (WAM) -- The international community needs to join forces to promote the culture of peace among nations, Dr Hanif Al Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, said during a ceremony held to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Nations and International Day of Peace. Addressing an audience of more than 1500 attendees, Dr. Al Qassim said that different artistic and cultural events and activities are a universal language that conveys deep messages and extends bridges of communication between diverse cultures, religions and nations. As an expression of the identity of authentic voices and the spirit of humanity, these activities provide a strong tool to promote peace and dialogue among nations, he added. The event was held at the UN Office in Geneva and sponsored by the Centre, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Venezuela to the UN and the UNESCO Office in Geneva. Held under the theme Arts and Culture for Peace, the event saw a group of artists from different cultures and religions performing famous classic masterpieces in a symbolic picture of cross-cultural and religious dialogue.
