ISLAMIC MASS ORGANIZATIONS TO SEND HUMANITARIAN AID TO PALESTINE

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA)- Indonesian Islamic mass organizations will immediately send humanitarian aid to Palestine whose people are suffering by the brutal Israeli military attacks, a spokesman said.

"Islamic mass organizations are not only concerned and condemning the Israeli actions but we have also built Muslim solidarity by sending aid like food, clothes, medical practitioners, especially surgeons," Din Syamsuddin, chairman of Muhammadiyah, one of the country's largest Islamic mass organizations, said here on Tuesday.

Syamsuddin said the country's Muslim mass organizations would not send "Jihad" (holy war) troops to face Israeli soldiers.

In addition, KH Masykuri Abdillah, associate chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama, the country's largest Islamic mass organization, said it was urgent to send humanitarian aid to Palestine instead of sending Jihad troops to fight the Israeli troops.

Masykuri said food, medical practitioners and volunteers who would assist the medical practitioners were now badly needed by Palestians.

Leaders of the Islamic mass organization discussed the necessary aid for Palestinians in a dialogue to formulate a joint statement relating to Islamic New Year 1430 Hegira.

The dialogue was also participated in by leaders of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI), including the Indonesian Mosque Council.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that Israeli warplanes pounded Gaza for a fourth day on Tuesday as tanks stood by to join the all-out war. Israel had vowed to wipe out Hamas, and the Palestinian death toll rose to at least 360.

In reaction to the current Israeli brutal attacks, the Indonesian people and government were among the first to condemn the Zionist state and offered assistance, which would include humanitarian aid worth one million US dollars and a US$200,000 package of medicines, to Palestine.

Indonesia, according to President Yudhoyono, strongly condemned the Israeli air strikes and urged the United Nations to take concrete steps to bring the aggression to an end.

"We invite all parties to help stop the Israeli attacks and we will continue to support the Palestinian struggle," Yudhoyono said on a separate occasion.
