KPK TO EMPLOY MORE PROSECUTORS AND POLICE OFFICERS

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission, known in its initials as KPK, plans to add more staff taken from prosecutor and police elements for the purpose of supervision and coordination with law enforcers in regions.

"I have asked for more personnel from the prosecutor's and police offices to coordinate supervision to cover wider regions," KPK chief Antasari Azhar said after reporting KPK's performance in 2008 here on Tuesday.

With regard to dealing with corruption he said supervision and coordination with law enforcers in the regions would be increased in 2009.

Antasari however did not specifically tell about regions to be focussed by KPK.

According to KPK the agency has already taken various efforts with regard to supervision and coordination in the prevention and action against corruption crimes.

With regard to prevention efforts KPK has carried out internal supervision in a number of institutions, put state assets in order and revised corruptive and multi-interpretative regulations in the central bank.

In the regions KPK has supervised public service in a stare regional hospital in the Kapuas district, a number of government agencies in Denpasar and the excise and custom office.

KPK meanwhile has also coordinated with the Attorney General Office and the police headquarters in connection with a number of corruption cases.

KPK meanwhile has also received a letter notifying the start of an investigation from 12 regional police commands in connection with 24 corruption cases and from 13 provincial prosecutor's offices regarding 34 corruptions cases and from the AGO over a corruption case.
