INDOSAT TO PROVIDE TELECOMMUNICATION SERVICES TO WIEF

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's second biggest state telecommunications company, PT Indosat Tbk, expressed readiness to provide telecommunication infrastructure facilities to support the fifth World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) scheduled in Jakarta on March 2 and 3, 2009.

WIEF is a meeting forum of moslem countries around the world to discuss economic and business issues.

As part of this commitment, president director of PT Indosat Tbk, Johny Swandi Sjam, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here Tuesday with Co-Chairman of WIEF's organizing committee as well as the minister of state enterprises, Sofyan Djalil.

"We will provide facilities such as the Internet and information technology gadgets, regular phones through I-phone facilities, 3G-based cell phones, and broadband services," Johny said.

Moreover, Johny said that Indosat's support to WIEF was part of the company's consistent commitment to supporting sharia-based economic development in Indonesia.

"Indosat as pioner of Sharia bonds has been receiving sharia certificates for its products and services. We are committed to keeping supporting sharia-based economic development in various sectors," Johny said.

Indosat is the first company in Indonesia which issued sharia bonds in 2002 called Mudharabah Sharia Bonds. These corporate bonds have been settled in 2007.

Furthermore, the second Sharia Bonds called Ijarah 1 Sharia Bonds were issued in 2005, followed by other bonds issued in 2007 and 2008. The three bonds are still available in the financial market these days.

"We are committed to developing sharia-based telecommunication businesses as part of our effort to improve the quality of our sharia-based services to our customers, Johny said.
