electronic transactions-Q3 tally

SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's electronic securities transactions rose 12.2 percent in the third quarter from three months earlier on increased trading of futures and options, the financial watchdog said Wednesday.

The volume of online securities transactions reached 1,505 trillion won (US$1.14
trillion) in the July-September period, compared with 1,341 trillion won from the
previous quarter, the Financial Supervisory Service said.
But the commission income of 36 securities firms decreased 10.5 percent
on-quarter to 343.5 billion won as a rise in entrants sparked competition in
lowering fees, the watchdog said.
Meanwhile, the volume of online financial transactions of 18 local and foreign
lenders, including Internet and mobile phone banking, rose 3.1 percent on-quarter
to 2,924 trillion won.
