PUNISHMENT IMPOSED ON 116 RELIGIOUS MINISTRY OFFICIALS
Jakarta, Dec 31 (ANTARA) - Punishment was imposed on some 116 officials at the Religious Ministry, most of whom were found guilty of misusing their powers.
"The results of an investigation by the Inspectorate General, show that seven officials have to be fired, " Secretary General of the Religious Ministry Bahrul Hayat said in a Year-End Reflection on the Performance of the Ministry which was also attended by Religious Minister Maftuh Basyuni here on Tuesday.
In addition, around 24 officials had been dismissed, 15 demoted, and 70 had their promotion delayed, their salary reduced and others.
According to him, the punishment was in line with regulation No 30 to deter them from misusing powers and serve as a lesson for other officials not to commit the same mistakes.
"Many of the punishees file a review of the legal action against the religious ministry to the state administrative court. But we are not afraid of facing it," he said.
He also said that the religious ministry would continue promoting efforts to create accountable, transparent and public service-oriented management of the ministry.
Furthermore, Bahrul said an audit of 1,098 annual working programs was underway at the working units within the religious ministry. His side had handled 73 of 134 public complaints which deserved to be followed up.
